By Dr. R. Barry Beebe, President of NBBI
A Bachelor of Theology degree will be presented to all future graduates of our fourth year, Advanced Biblical Ministries, program beginning on May 3rd, 2009. New Brunswick Bible Institute has entered into an academic partnership with Covington Theological Seminary of Georgia for the purpose of granting this degree.
Our NBBI Board of Directors has been studying the subject of degree granting for over two years and have now voted, in conjunction with our faculty and staff, to proceed in this direction. We believe that a degree in theology will be highly valued and widely understood by our constituency as an appropriate academic term for:
1. What our students achieve in their biblical studies and credit hours earned.
2. What prospective students and parents are looking for upon payment and completion of a prescribed course of study.
3. What many foreign governments, mission boards, pulpit committees and Christian organizations are requiring for ministry candidates.
4. What Bible colleges, seminaries and Christian universities will recognize by way of transfer credit for our grads who go on for further training.
Covington Theological Seminary is a school of like precious faith, biblical conviction and purpose of ministry. It has been in existence for over 30 years and currently has approximately 1200 students worldwide. Covington is located in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on the outskirts of Chattanooga, Tennessee where they offer numerous semester programs of study at a bachelor, master and doctoral degree level. Covington also has a number of extension campuses in the United States, as well as Africa, Asia and Europe and offers long distance learning opportunities for individuals by way of correspondence or the internet.
Covington Theological Seminary is chartered with the state of Georgia for the purpose of degree granting and also holds membership in the Accrediting Commission International. ACI is the world’s largest non-governmental accrediting association with over 320 educational institutions in six different countries.
Previous graduates of our fourth year ABM program may apply for the Bachelor of Theology degree by contacting the registrar’s office at NBBI. Each applicant must meet appropriate character, ministry, theological and financial requirements to receive this degree. The application process must be fully completed by January 30th, 2009 in order to receive the Bachelor of Theology degree for the 2008-2009 school year.
Graduates of our three year program of Biblical and Theological Studies may also apply to enter our fourth year program. Acceptance and participation will depend upon the applicants’ years of documented ministry experience, or their ability to fulfil ministry requirements in their local area, or their ability to serve in ministries in other approved locations.
We believe that a Bachelor of Theology degree will be a great benefit to our former, present and prospective students, as well as for the promotion and credibility of our programs where we are relatively unknown.
We have not been required to change our courses, programs or faculty. The quality and high standard of training at NBBI and the character and
commitment of our graduates are widely recognized and appreciated in local churches and mission organizations. Many reputable and fully accredited educational institutions, such as Moody Bible Institute, Trinity Baptist College, Southern Evangelical Seminary and Luther Rice University, etc., have accepted all of the credits earned by our students transferring to their schools.
We sincerely endeavour to be more relative to the people of God in our ever changing society, culture and churches, while at the same time being true to our doctrinal convictions, our purpose of existence and the holy Word of God.
