Job Description – Head Lifeguard
Reports To: Ministry/Program Co-ordinator
As a Program Assistant you will work as a member of the Program Team to implement the daily camp schedule. As the Head Lifeguard, you will be responsible for running the safe operation of water related activities including those at the pool and the pond.
-NLS and First-Aid/CPR-C Certified
-Experience working in a pool setting
-Experience in working with individuals and groups of children of various ages and abilities
-Demonstrated skills and ability in children’s programming and implementation
-Ability to work in a team setting and positively influence peers
-Ability to communicate with groups of staff and campers of various sizes
-Ability to sustain the physical demands of an outdoor residential camp setting
-Desirous of building relationships with and caring for the needs of children
-Ability to positively influence, motivate and instruct children spiritually, emotionally, socially and intellectually. Positive approaches to problem solving are a critical skill to teach and uphold.
-Knowledge of development stages and behaviour management.
-Conscientious in matters of personal ethics and lifestyle.
-Ability to perform some spontaneous and individual programming
-We require absolute confidentiality regarding campers, as well as personal and professional integrity in matters of relationship, programs and work ethic.
-A staff person’s lifestyle must be consistent with biblical standards and Christian values at all times.
-Must work within and support The Scott Mission’s Christian Statement of Faith, Goals and Objectives
-Implementation of the daily camp as directed by the Program/Ministry Co-ordinator
-Organization, set-up and leadership of the evening game and other program activities
-Rainy day programming
-Campfire supervision and leadership
-Developing and implementing a swimming program for all campers
-Program design for all ages of campers at camp which considers appropriate needs, abilities, and interests
-Inventory and ordering of all necessary supplies for the pool and/or pond
-Instruction of campers and training of staff in the proper procedures relevant to each aspect of the water-based elements of camp
-Ensuring the pool and pond is run with maximum adherence to health and safety protocols
-Active encouragement and reinforcement for all efforts on the part of campers in the program
-Lead staff devotions as scheduled
-Camper behaviour management as required in support of the counselling staff
-Camper supervision as required
-Camper and staff hospital trips as required
